I was in two minds about doing the 100 Word Challenge for Grown Ups this week.
Julia at http://www.juliasplace.org.uk told us some sad news about the death of a young man she knew, leaving a wife and young children. And knowing that my 100 word stories often take a twist or two, I didn’t want to be disrespectful.
But in the end, I had a go. And this story is written with my heartfelt sympathies to Julia’s friend and her family. God bless, if her beliefs allow her to accept it. The prompt for the story was … he just went to sleep and didn’t wake up…
“Spice up your life.” I sat on the bed singing into my hairbrush. It wasn’t as good as a real microphone but that’s ok, I wasn’t as good as Geri. Yet. Maybe when I’m ten, next year.
“Turn that music down.” Mum called up the stairs and I shut the bedroom door so I couldn’t hear her. And turned the Spice Girls up. Just a bit.
The door opened. “Stacey. Turn it down.”
“Look, Mum. There’s something wrong with him.” I showed her what was in my hand. “Tamagotchi. He went to sleep and never woke up.”
“It’s ok, sweetheart. He’s just in Pause mode.”
“Phew.”
That was really quite sweet.
