If you’re about to start the madness which is NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month), which starts on Tuesday, you’re gonna need some help. Here’s my Top Four of what worked for me the last two years (and I’ll be doing it again this year).
- See how other people do it. Writers Write has some great tips here 30 Inspiring Tips For National Novel Writing Month
- Browse the forums on the http://www.nanowrimo.org site. You can find encouragement, commiseration, inspiration and buddies who are just as crazy as you
- Think how good it’ll feel when it’s all over (and conversely, how much you’ll miss it on 1 December)
- Imagine having that novel in your hands. Think that’s a long way away? Yes it is, but 50,000 words written in November will bring it a whole lot closer
So if you’re doing it too, or have even thought about it, good luck! If anyone wants to buddy up, I’m on http://www.nanowrimo.org as kimmie63.
And just to show that something can come out of NaNoWriMo, here’s my results from the last two years.
