100 Word Challenge for Grown Ups – Week 165

Julia at http://www.juliasplace.org.uk gave us this prompt, for this wet Bank Holiday Monday (in the UK at least). “The alarm went off at 6am.” So here’s a short little piece to go with that.

The alarm went off at 6am.  Simon and Adrian looked at each other. They hadn’t needed the prompt. Neither had slept a wink, there was too much at stake.

“Don’t suppose there’s been any change in the game?”

“Not that I’ve heard. The plan is still to send the cavalry into Tokyo.”

They exchanged another look.

“Suppose we’d better get on with it then.”

Adrian sighed. “I hate making war. Why can’t we make love instead?”

“Then it would be a whole different game. Come on, your Australian cousins don’t like to be kept waiting when they’re playing Risk.”
